A philosophical pedestrianism

Autumn, like Spring, is adventure time. Wander time. I’ve been filling up on these. You decide an initial direction or destination, from there you follow your feet, or state of mind. You flow. Chasing miles. Chasing the magic hour. Moonrise. It's nice to chase it all in my own city; the deepening blue, jeweled with lights of infrastructure and the… Continue reading A philosophical pedestrianism

Design: Derby Day posters

Here is the poster design / illustration I created for this year's Derby Party at Commonwealth bar in Brooklyn. Ray (the proprietor) has commissioned me a number of times for these; he started having these parties at the Great Lakes bar years ago. This year's design combines qualities of my two favorite posters from previous… Continue reading Design: Derby Day posters

sketchy do-dads from the moleskine

A nicely rounded decrescendo of humans absorbed in devices, drinks and perhaps conversation. Clearly not all the people, but a handful to represent the lot. Their gradual rotation puts me in mind just a little of Duchamp's Nude Descending a Staircase— motion implied in a still (though miles more primitive in this case). Another even sketchier sketch after… Continue reading sketchy do-dads from the moleskine

unplanned obsolescence

Brooklyn laundry ladder via flickr hive mind There’s a slender ladder in the yard behind my house. I’ve seen it a thousand times; it starts at the ground and goes exactly nowhere. Patiently ignores the barking of the dog in spring. I know it was planted to thread clotheslines to the windows, but the pulleys… Continue reading unplanned obsolescence

A fine spring day and an illustration

Here is a sliver (sans graphics) of another illustration I've been working on this week for a client's event. Viking woman meets Metropolis is essentially the visual theme— although it's more specific, as will be apparent in the final, to be released on electrofork in May. Until then, just a taste. It was a nice… Continue reading A fine spring day and an illustration

sneaky peek two

Sneaky peek update. Colors are happening; atmosphere. It's fun. I love it when work is enjoyable, satisfying; when I feel like I'm doing good work. Edited to Add: sneaky peek at (a slice of) the final. Complete with cheerful bistro lights and voyeur-tempting glows from apartment windows. Full artwork to be released in May on electrofork.

illustration in progress

Here is a sneaky peek at an illustration I'm working on for a client. It's depicting a street in Gowanus, although modified.  There is likely a bit more drawing to do, but I like the skeletal look of it in outlines. The final product will be colorized and have some shading, transparencies— a nighttime scene,… Continue reading illustration in progress

“Work Island” and the Mythologicals have been added to Etsy

For any Brooklynites out there who feel an occasional pang of disdain toward that slender, sometimes tiresome island across the river, this one's for you; it's a gicleé print on 8" x 10"— ready to go into a frame immediately. I've also reprised my darling, dear, disaffected Mythologicals series from 2005  into 8" x 10" prints, and… Continue reading “Work Island” and the Mythologicals have been added to Etsy

Brooklyn is always great for wandering

You know it’s December when WordPress is snowing 🙂 Yesterday I walked just over 4 miles (6.5 km) while running errands— a much shorter walk than Sunday (above), but enjoyable. I downloaded the app Runkeeper to my phone, so from now on I can track mileage, etc. Brilliant little app, simple to use. Judging from… Continue reading Brooklyn is always great for wandering

Cycling weather

I outlined our biking routes amongst three neighborhoods (click to enlarge) The September weather has been beautiful for biking and walking; sunny and crisp, humidity pretty well gone now. Zac and I did some cycling on Tuesday in the gorgeous sunshine and into the night; from South Park Slope to Ditmas Park (aqua route to Sycamore),… Continue reading Cycling weather
