Announcing: Pisces

Another sigil has been designed. This one is based on my adorable little pond comet, Wink. He's got a ball gown of a tail, and is a slender little ballerina of a fish. I've decided to focus on the designs first, and get to the mottos of houses later on, as they require more research.… Continue reading Announcing: Pisces

The tertiary colors of cloth bound books

A contour drawing (half-blind, but not fully) from last evening. Lotsa' books. In reality, the secretary is also loaded with books— on the shelves behind the glass. Also there is an additional bookcase on the opposite corner of the room. I do love books.

A Substrate of Stone

Ogami stone sketchbook

I bought a new sketchbook last week. It's not filled with paper; the description on the back explains it "is made up of 80% calcium carbonate and 20% non-toxic resins." The pages have a feeling similar to vellum, but extremely smooth. I tested in the shop with some markers, and they were very painterly on it,… Continue reading A Substrate of Stone

The wind, HOWLING

An old drawing, recently rediscovered. And here we are, still banished to the land of wind and ghosts. I feel I’ve fairly jinxed something by quoting that passage from Hemingway a ways back; while we’ve not had too much in the way of rain, we’ve yet to meet that “night of warm wind” that brings… Continue reading The wind, HOWLING

sketchy do-dads from the moleskine

A nicely rounded decrescendo of humans absorbed in devices, drinks and perhaps conversation. Clearly not all the people, but a handful to represent the lot. Their gradual rotation puts me in mind just a little of Duchamp's Nude Descending a Staircase— motion implied in a still (though miles more primitive in this case). Another even sketchier sketch after… Continue reading sketchy do-dads from the moleskine

A fine spring day and an illustration

Here is a sliver (sans graphics) of another illustration I've been working on this week for a client's event. Viking woman meets Metropolis is essentially the visual theme— although it's more specific, as will be apparent in the final, to be released on electrofork in May. Until then, just a taste. It was a nice… Continue reading A fine spring day and an illustration

work island : queens edition

For the good citizens of Queens, a new edition of prints! These will be available as prints at Lockwood Shop in Queens within a couple weeks! Possibly the alternate as well— the borough of dreams edition... (after the jump)

sneaky peek two

Sneaky peek update. Colors are happening; atmosphere. It's fun. I love it when work is enjoyable, satisfying; when I feel like I'm doing good work. Edited to Add: sneaky peek at (a slice of) the final. Complete with cheerful bistro lights and voyeur-tempting glows from apartment windows. Full artwork to be released in May on electrofork.

illustration in progress

Here is a sneaky peek at an illustration I'm working on for a client. It's depicting a street in Gowanus, although modified.  There is likely a bit more drawing to do, but I like the skeletal look of it in outlines. The final product will be colorized and have some shading, transparencies— a nighttime scene,… Continue reading illustration in progress

“Work Island” and the Mythologicals have been added to Etsy

For any Brooklynites out there who feel an occasional pang of disdain toward that slender, sometimes tiresome island across the river, this one's for you; it's a gicleé print on 8" x 10"— ready to go into a frame immediately. I've also reprised my darling, dear, disaffected Mythologicals series from 2005  into 8" x 10" prints, and… Continue reading “Work Island” and the Mythologicals have been added to Etsy
