Attention Democrats, Progressives, Liberals!

Gonna get a little political, just for a minute, because it's important, damnit. The election is still months away, I realize, but the smallish faction of Bernie-or-Bust people out there being loud has gone too far, considering at this point they are going against their beloved Bernie. Look, I've been a great fan of Mr… Continue reading Attention Democrats, Progressives, Liberals!

Super fun Snapchat silliness project

As a designer who works in video, I’ve been meaning to get a handle on Snapchat for awhile. Turned out all I needed was a four hour bus ride wherein I was basically trapped and a little bored— and voila! A monster was born.

Silenced is not Equal: #BlackLivesMatter

Here is the latest in my "Don't See Don't Speak" (or the Red Hand of Shut It) series— something more topical in response to the tragic and avoidable events of last week. Please feel free to share this widely and repost (as is). Below are some progress scans of the pencilling. One again, I forgot to… Continue reading Silenced is not Equal: #BlackLivesMatter

The implicit ‘too’— What matters

We are not a nation known for nuance— apparently what’s implicit is not always obvious. But if a sensitive, painstaking explanation is what’s required, let what's viral be helpful. #BlackLivesMatterToo

Something Ricked…

I have some illustrations to do for a book ,and this won't be one of them, but I did this one anyway for fun. (One of the actual ones will be similar though.)

woodless HB | 0.5mm 2B | 0.5mm gel ink

Here are sneak peek slices of the two illustrations. They are nearly finished (add ice to the drinks, refine shading of stripes), but the book is not, so the final reveals will be some months from now, maybe longer. That's all I can say. These were done using some woodless HB pencils that are new to… Continue reading woodless HB | 0.5mm 2B | 0.5mm gel ink

Sneak-attack home improvement

Tuesday was a BAMF TCB day. (That's acronymic for Badass Motherfucker Taking Care of Business day.) Today will be more of the same (because #deadlines, as the kids say). After a solid five hours of focused client work in the morning, I spontaneously went full berserker on the decrepit grout and caulking in my shower. I've been wanting to… Continue reading Sneak-attack home improvement

Cartography of Amsterdam West

This map, which I designed / illustrated for Pendergast in Amsterdam, went live on their website a week or two ago. I worked with them to articulate entryways to the neighborhood, highlighting routes for cyclists, cars and public transport. In the midst of designing, I traveled to Amsterdam. We held meetings. I went to the restaurant a… Continue reading Cartography of Amsterdam West

Some hasty little watercolor sketches

Put the new set of watercolors to the test last night. Silly stuff; most of these began with lips as the point of departure. Result: a fair amount of drag, androgyny. (For some reason the two on the right turned out looking or seeming very like Fred Armisen.)

October snuck in

Here's a poster and wall banner I designed for South Brooklyn Shakespeare's first event in their salon reading series, to take place on November 1. ( La Dia de los Muertos, poor Yorick!) October has blustered in with a bitch slap, weather-wise, here in NYC. Prelude to Hurricane Joaquin. Not very nice, but that's autumn… Continue reading October snuck in
