a new portrait study

Started a pencil portrait study on the weekend, but I wanted to do some fast and loose work to get back into the swing of drawing, so markers and Moleskine tonight, and my collection of Victorian and Edwardian era portraits. This is a cropped photo from my phone taken about midway through. Full finished study… Continue reading a new portrait study

some drawings from the moleskine

I did some drawings last night for the first time in awhile. Felt good, was feeling natural again despite the need to wear specs (ugh—my continually waning close-to vision). The pen is a Pilot P-500, extra fine point. I like these pens because the ink is not waterproof, allowing for the watercolor-esque smearing. More after… Continue reading some drawings from the moleskine

These are cartoon legs, but I am a cartoon

'Nother drawing. These are nighttime shadows—movie-watching shadows. But I'd have liked to've been on a beach. Would like to be on one now, but work.

An assignment to make me better

This creature, hiding his hands for so long, grows a new protective limb; a second ribcage around the heart—an Odalisque refusing intimacy; allergic to vulnerability. My hands are prettiest when they are smeared in ink, paint, any pigment; any evidence of my stock in trade. Drawing is my origin, my core. It’s something I have… Continue reading An assignment to make me better

Duchy & Vole

This is what happens when I watch Project Runway. Yesterday’s sort of gusting W I N D throws some of the apartment’s weaknesses into high relief; an embarrassing semblance of outdated aluminum-framed windows in the kitchen, and utter lack of insulation in the outhouse—er, bathroom. The place is downright chilly on such days. This time… Continue reading Duchy & Vole

Starting the year by drawing again

I haven't put anything here on the blog in an age. Now it's a new year, and I plan to get back into my non-work creative pursuits. I have been blaming work and being busy in general for my lack of non-work creative endeavors, but I have recently come to realize there was more to… Continue reading Starting the year by drawing again

some watercolor sketches

Here are some sketchbook drawings from August I'd forgotten about. Sort of in thinking about the card deck, but obviously went off on some tangents here. Click to see the larger images. I cannot believe it's October already. Cold today. In other news: I will be selling jewelry and art at Brooklyn Craft Central’s 3rd… Continue reading some watercolor sketches

Home from abroad

Tired. (still on GMT.) Very smooth traveling, though-- actually a pleasant plane trip and only seven hours to get back. Here's another drawing, for now, from the trip book. It's of part of the vast and winding interior of The Sheep Heid Inn in Duddingston, Edinburgh (we did not play skittles, alas) on the far… Continue reading Home from abroad

some sketches

Used the photobooth on my macbook to get these rather grainy images from my sketchbook. It's not much, but until I get a proper USB for the camera, it's all I've got! the buildings out back of where we're staying interior of a restaurant in Noord called Pollux; it's in a big old wooden boat.
