A telegraph from Elysium

I was trying to connect with the horses at turns. But my Night shade was finding them, not the real me— a defensive version, that spooked and scared the horses— So they told me I must find them as myself.

Sketches of a lost compass

Well, I haven't done any watercolors or writing for the blog this week, apologies. I've been working on several projects for clients, as well as populating a new piece of furniture which arrived over the weekend (a separate post about that forthcoming). Here are a few pencil sketches for a project I'm working on now.… Continue reading Sketches of a lost compass

A cascade of watercolor people

Some forgotten sketches

Forgive me! I was foiled yet again by a three day weekend and forgot to post yesterday! Here is what ought to've been posted; I thought I had scheduled it.

Watercolor explorations, aliens, &c.

Here are some little watercolor sketches. I worked with a different type of pen than usual to avoid the ink bleed (Microns .03 and .05), and a couple of different types of paper— printmaking papers, leftover. Two of the loose sheets were far too absorptive for working well with watercolor (no lifting, no way to work into… Continue reading Watercolor explorations, aliens, &c.

A wander through Gowanus

Some geometric compositions from a quiet wander last Saturday, late afternoon as the light drained from the sky. This building has such gorgeous moulding. The Ninth Street subway overpass is weirdly beautiful, too.

I was thinking— I must always bring my sketchbook, else I wind up in a situation with only receipts from my wallet as drawing surfaces. (You never know where you may wind up when you've no specific plans beyond 6pm.) But, then— an 'unconventional materials' challenge is probably a good thing; keeps a person sharp. (Be prepared to… Continue reading Receipts as a substrate for drawing

Prima Vera

Here's something that I apparently saved as a draft last spring. I found it a week or so ago, and I don't think I'll spend any more time on it, but as it was just recently Imbolc, and we had a 60º day Wednesday (despite the blizzard since) I thought I'd post it as a welcome to nascent Spring.… Continue reading Prima Vera

Creepiness! And Fluidity

So, here's another watercolor (and one more below) I did over the weekend that somehow were omitted. Maybe because they’re creepy, and incongruous with my general milieu. Speaking of, the past couple weeks I’ve had an inexplicable ache in my right wing. Mostly only noticeable when at a wrong angle, but still— perplexing. Then Sunday in the hours… Continue reading Creepiness! And Fluidity
