paintings: progress

Clinton building, much changed from its pink sky days. (40" x 30") Amsterdam map. The upper half show the progress made at art night on Tuesday. (24" x 18") Maps and blue are the new introduction to this leg of the architectural series, the third of which is the row of Amsterdam houses on the… Continue reading paintings: progress

::sigh::

The work is chugging along despite continued (though decreased) technical difficulties. What is not chugging along, sadly, are any of my artistic (not-for-clients) endeavors. The balance is a difficult one to strike. Sometimes I find myself browsing the web sites and blogs of other artists, and despair. At what point will I (a) have enough… Continue reading ::sigh::

Equinox– nearly

Today began with a brutal sore throat and utter congestion, though it's much better now. First Spring head cold– hopefully the only. But then, I think I didn't have one over the winter, so maybe this is how Winter gets the boot, tomorrow being the Spring Equinox! Above: continued progress on the 24"x8" canvas.

Amsterdam IV

Showing progress of underpainting done on Friday and Saturday. On Friday night, Kim and I had our most productive Art Night in about a year. This will be part of a sort of tripdych including the Clinton Buildings with map, plus a third piece to accompany this one– a map of Amsterdam. A continuation of… Continue reading Amsterdam IV

stripes and dresden

A sliver of a peek at something I began over the weekend, just because it ties in with all of the maps and stripes flying around here lately. At the moment I'm not sure where it's headed (and if it knows, it hasn't let me in on it yet). The map shows Rome– not part… Continue reading stripes and dresden

Clinton Hill house

Well, I haven't done any drawings since about Wednesday of last week, but I have been working on re-visiting an abandoned canvas, begun last year in the summer. (Here is where it stood prior to this weekend.) It's gone in quite a different direction from the monochromatic Amsterdams of 2007. I've  incorporated a cartographic element… Continue reading Clinton Hill house

exploding dog

There was a site I used to visit at least once a week; filled with drawings– digital drawings– of big-headed stick figures. They were often funny, but also often very poignant, and when all else failed they had robots or aliens. It took me a few minutes and some off-track google searches, but I finally… Continue reading exploding dog

cats ~n clowns

Last evening was Art Night at Kim's house. I did three drawings– two of which are above and came out rather interesting. The third came out t.c.– total crap. That handsome, sly-looking feline is Berber, who lives with Anders; a great observer of humans and sometimes terribly sweet as well. The clown– who knows where… Continue reading cats ~n clowns

A film for three walls

Here are some images from the Pipilotti Rist "Get Your Body Out" installation at the MoMA. Kim and I wen yesterday, and when you enter this huge room, it's an immediate sonorous, soothing embrace of color, sound and light. The whole room had been carpeted and invited lounging– complete with a massive, blue, iris-shaped banquette… Continue reading A film for three walls
