A film for three walls

Here are some images from the Pipilotti Rist “Get Your Body Out” installation at the MoMA. Kim and I wen yesterday, and when you enter this huge room, it’s an immediate sonorous, soothing embrace of color, sound and light. The whole room had been carpeted and invited lounging– complete with a massive, blue, iris-shaped banquette filling the center of the room (and creating yet another space within its circle). An astounding contrast to the bustling, bumping-into crowds in the rest of the museum (especially on Free Friday).
The photos don’t do much to convey, really; it makes it looks like little more than a sort of giant lava lamp, but it’s impeccably crafted and the imagery ranges and goes through a sort of abstract narrative. She refers to the effect it has as “spiritual vitamins,” and you can feel it. Absolutely transporting.
