A farther afield wander

Here are some photos from last weekend. A crisp sunny Saturday in November calls for wander time. Took the train out to Bushwick and meandered in the sun. We had some pints in a yard, then made a circuitous path northwest and into nighttime before heading back Slopeward on the G. A good day for photographing, and clocked six miles walking, even with… Continue reading A farther afield wander

Bits from the sketchbook

Anyone else remember the law from ancient Rome, wherein a temporary dictator could be appointed in times of national crisis?  Aside, here's a sketch from Halloween Monday. Looks like Freddy Kreuger; maybe that's what she was going for. While I captured her sweater and hat with some panache, I got her profile all wrong. Don't judge… Continue reading Bits from the sketchbook

A wander through Marine Park at Gerritsen Beach

This is a departure from my usual urban photography, yet Marine Park is urban— but urban nature. This small stretch of beach and marshland is adjacent to a small neighborhood on a peninsula in Brooklyn.

Colors of the city : day to night

Some images of beautiful buildings, trees, and windows around Park Slope at eventide.

Umbrellas and breakers

Its beaches are among New York City's finest assets in the summer season, and the past weekend included two days delightfully spent where the Atlantic meets the sand at Jacob Riis Park. I spied a couple of cormorants drifting on the water out beyond the crashing waves. They're more commonly spotted lounging in the sun on the jetties of Coney, drying their… Continue reading Umbrellas and breakers

Cardinal directions

Sometimes I feel as though I’m steering a ship with no map, no stars to navigate by, and the most frustrating thing is that there’s no way to even ask for a map, for stars. You’re just there, adrift in the darkness, hoping that the next piece of intel will crack some code, provide you… Continue reading Cardinal directions
