A quiet wander through a green wood (part the first)

This is part one of two, as I took a slew of photos this afternoon, walking through Green-Wood Cemetery with my younger brother, in town for a few days. This cemetery is very near my apartment, yet I haven't been since last summer. It was a trip to release one of my goldfish (grown too… Continue reading A quiet wander through a green wood (part the first)

A day lakeside

Yesterday was the first day since I arrived upstate that it broke sunny instead of clouds attended by rain. It was welcome timing, as we'd long planned a day on Canandaigua Lake where my middle brother and his family have a new lake house. It was breezy and sunny with a brilliant sky and the… Continue reading A day lakeside

On the farm after a sudden, short downfall

I apologize— I missed my Monday posting deadline! I've been posting a lot lately, but was somewhat busy leading up to go out of town and come upstate. Here are some photographs from around the farm earlier today. There was a brief, thundering deluge around 11am or so. Then the sky brightened which is always… Continue reading On the farm after a sudden, short downfall

A Spring rain, soon forgotten

The morning, bright and grey, has brought that soft, all-day rain peculiar to certain regions, like here. Neither dire nor gloomy; gentle patterings on the sill And out the streetside window— Wet roads that sound like crushed velvet or old dresses, piled flat in a secondhand store. No slantwise wind or biting air Just a fine steady… Continue reading A Spring rain, soon forgotten

Song of Myself, on a barge in Red Hook

Saturday evening there was a fundraising event on the historic museum barge in Red Hook; the reading of every last canto of Walt Whitman's Song of Myself, as read by a number of local luminaries. It began before and ended just after sunset over Brooklyn's Buttermilk Channel and Erie Basin, the once-Dutch, fierce little neighborhood called Red Hook. I've… Continue reading Song of Myself, on a barge in Red Hook

The Comme des Garçons show at the Met

Some friends and I took a trip into the Big Town on Monday to check out a couple exhibits at the Met. One was the Rei Kawakubo / Comme des Garçons exhibit of works spanning some decades. The gallery space was designed specially for this, a collaboration between the artist and the Met, and the… Continue reading The Comme des Garçons show at the Met

An afternoon in the Big Town followed by miles of walking

Here's a sketch from Friday evening. I'd only just started when its subjects vacated the backyard, so I had to improvise. I re-cast them indoors, among the lamps, after the fact. Had an afternoon meeting followed by a stroll through lower Manhattan on Friday. I walked from Madison Square Park to City Hall, with some decent photographic moments while across… Continue reading An afternoon in the Big Town followed by miles of walking

Adventures in Light: Charm City

Lanterns above illuminated hand-cranked animation machine by Elizabeth Whitmore Crankie

Here are some selects from my photographs during Light City Baltimore 2017. Attributions of the various installations (as many as I could gather) are listed in the photo captions. There were many more installations than shown here, but some of them simply don't convey well in still images.

LEDs and the dancing fireplace wall

Some fun lighting at Kelley's house in Baltimore. Mini Light City right in the living room! I got loads of photographs from installations around the Inner Harbor last night. I'll be posting some of those soon.

Have you tried the the Nik Collection for photos?

Google has a set of photo filters that are really pretty powerful, and take very little time. There are loads of presets in each, and each has a range of layers, each of which can be toggled on or off as well as selectively controlled. You will suffer from severe option paralysis with these!
