the everlasting tale of change

Yesterday on WNYC there was a wonderful interview with author Maurice Sendak during which, among other things, he discussed the sadness of losing loved ones as one gets older.

Yesterday, too, was the funeral for my Uncle Duke, which I wish I could have been at. Though he lived most of his life in Rochester, NY, he grew up in the the neighborhood I’ve called home for over 15 years. I’ve been thinking of him lot these past few days.

Fall, it seems, cannot help but be melancholy, and goodbyes are in her very nature.
