Art as murder

This afternoon, I killed a painting I did about a year and a half ago. It was on 2 facing panels of a hinged wooden cigar box— a box I wish to use for a new piece. I sanded it, stained it and obliterated the remaining ghost image with a glaze of linseed and oil paint. Now I wait for the paint to dry; the linseed will act as an accelerator, but still it’ll be a day or two at least.

It felt good— liberating.

An artist mustn’t get too precious with her art, especially pieces that weren’t successful. Whatever comes of it, I’ll likely post it here soon. There is a smaller piece in progress as well; attendant to the machines (6 and 11).
